“Bitter Whole”, Sweet Piece

PRODUCER // ENGINEER // MIX

Playing some of their first-ever shows before the pandemic, the hunks in Sweet Piece invited me and my mobile recording rig to a show in January 2020 in order to cram as much material into their set as possible.
Nine months later, after deciding on and rehearsing the best of their best, we entered Hazy Bay Music in South Seattle to cut seven singles together. (Fun fact: these tracks were the first ones mixed & mastered in my new home studio!)

“Sea//Grams”, Stres

LIVE BAND (DRUMS)

Released in October 2021 on Cruisin Records, "SEA//GRAMS" is the debut full-length from Sasha Bolof's Stres. Produced by Erik Blood over the span of 5 years, this record confidently charts a course deep into the landscapes of identity and purpose, with spacey synth sounds and lush sample-driven hooks leading the way. I only recently began playing live shows with Sasha in 2020 before the pandemic disrupted her initial release plans.
Check out the first single “Watts 103rd”!

“Patterns”, Indigo Seed

SESSION MUSICIAN (DRUMS)

For years, bandleader and multimedia artist Colton Greer had been writing the songs for his psychedelic/ambient rock album "Patterns". I was brought onto closer to the finish line to provide the drums onto which he would layer more instruments, working alongside Colton and producer Garrett Reynolds at ElectroKitty Recording in Wallingford, Seattle.

“S/T”, Craig Jaffe

PRODUCER // ENGINEER // SESSION MUSICIAN (DRUMS)

Hired to play drums for Craig at his first show in 2018--at Seattle's BUMBERSHOOT of all places--we focused that energy and built on his momentum with an EP of singles as part of a more-formal solo debut in 2019; I even sweet-talked the Vegas native into covering the Cocteau Twins' classic!
It's been such a joy to watch a budding capital-A Artist step into their own, and even more fun to be a part of the team. Craig Jaffe is currently arranging and writing new material.

“No Exit”, Endo Glen

MIX ENGINEER

Mixed from my apartment on Jefferson Street in 2018, this collection of songs from Endo Glen stands more as a post-mortem for the group after disbanding than anything else. Working with singer/guitarist Eric Gordon (Darien Shields, Options.Open), we tried incorporating some slicker but still in-the-box mix techniques.
It also posed a unique challenge to me as the mix engineer, in that the opening track/lead single "Pariah" was already done--my challenge was to finish the remaining 6 tunes in a way that complemented and fit alongside the first. So how do you think I did?

“Sad Brunch”, Ramona

MIX ENGINEER

Ramona's 2016 "Sad Brunch" EP was the first batch of mixing I did upon dropping anchor in Seattle, and ironically enough the band now resides in my old hometown of Philadelphia. These 6 songs hold a special place in my heart, and I'm fortunate that our paths crossed before they set off on a grueling pop-punk world domination tour!

Nick’s Own Bands

The two sweetest (and scariest?) words in the English language: “creative control”

Pilot Cloud

Justin Lerner & I have been making music together since the earliest days of my career in Philadelphia. Now settled amongst the drip and drizzle of the Pacific Northwest--Justin relocated to Portland OR shortly before I arrived in Seattle--our shoegaze/post-rock band Pilot Cloud remains ever inspired by smoke, space, and the disorientation of both.
Playing in and writing for this band has helped me remember that although the journey may be ponderous or fraught or lonely, it’s in the “getting there” that holds the larger point: Home is where you are and the people you bring with you. Some things you never really leave; some things you never really know.
Pilot Cloud is currently writing for a new full-length album due in 2024.

Gibraltar

Before I unpacked a single piece of equipment in Seattle, I had been emailing with Aaron Starkey about being "the next drummer in Gibraltar". Flash-forward from 2015 to now and I've been the band's rhythmic engine ever since, sweating it out all in black with Starkey, pianist Holly Waits, and a rotating cast of other A+ players from Seattle's music community.
Our latest record "MODERN MISCHIEF" was produced with Matt Bayles (Minus The Bear, Mastodon, Holy Fawn) at the helm.
